An Inner Look at Black Women Leadership Qualities

The NURTURE Reflections Movement

The NURTURE Milestone Theory

The NURTURE Milestone Theory is a comprehensive framework developed from studying Black female senior enlisted leaders who served in the Air Force. This study was conducted by Dr. LaTasha Ireland while on active duty. She retired from the military in June 2022 as a Master Sergeant (E7) from the Department of the Air Force. The study emphasizes the importance of nurturing leadership development through seven competency objectives. These objectives provide a roadmap for understanding and enhancing the leadership journey, especially considering the unique challenges Black women face due to the intersectionality of race and gender. The theory serves as a guiding tool for tailored mentorship, training, and support to empower Black Women Leaders in the military.
